1948 – 2018
Dan A. Mehaffie died at his home in Plain City, Ohio on 4 Aug 2018 following a long period of illness. He was born in Canton, Ohio on 16 Jun 1948 to James L. Mehaffie and Janet E. [Killian] Mehaffie. Dan attended Glenwood High School, Stetson University, in Florida and Ohio State.
He was President of Access Appraisal, (a local commercial and residential Real Estate Appraisal Company), and was the past owner of Columbus Overhead Door Company and Mehaffie Builder’s Supply of Canton. Dan also worked in Real Estate sales through Saxton Real Estate and with Altimate Real Estate with his brother, Tom.
Pastimes included football – related activities, and kayaking. Dan was a volunteer for many years at the Dublin Irish Festival. Dan loved sports and was a referee for both youth soccer and volleyball. Dan was an usher at Zion Christian Fellowship, as well as attending Cypress Wesleyan and Westgate Methodist Churches. Dan was a veteran of the US Army and a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. He was active in community organizations and was previously involved with the Masons. Dan is often remembered as a man with a big smile who was outgoing and friendly to all.
Those surviving Dan are his wife, Karen Ohliger Mehaffie; brother, Thomas A. Mehaffie of Canton and sister, Nancy S. Mehaffie [Bruce Hunn] of Thompson Falls, Montana. He is also survived by his daughter, Sarah R. Timmons; and son, Brendan J. Mehaffie. He also has a grandson, Adam Fry and granddaughter, Reese Fry.
Visitation will be held on MONDAY, 13 AUGUST, 2018 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Zion Christian Fellowship, 10405 Sawmill Rd, Powell, OH 43065 with his Funeral Service following the visitation and beginning at 6:00p.m. Burial will be held TUESDAY, 14 August, 2018 at 10:00 AM in Big Darby Cemetery, 6835 Plain City-Georgesville Rd, Plain City 43064.
In lieu of flowers, donations under Dan’s name can be made to Disabled American Veterans, P. O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
