David W. Byler Jr., age 71 of West Jefferson, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 9, 2021, after battling COVID-19.
He was born on January 28, 1950, in Catlett, Virginia to David and Katie (Bontrager) Byler. On October 22, 1977, he was united in marriage to Wanda R. Byler, who survives. They were married for 43 years.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed spending quality time with his family and especially loved playing checkers. He also really loved being ornery and playful with his grandchildren. His grandchildren will hold their “Papa” near and dear in their hearts forever.
He liked reading scripture from the Bible and really treasured going to DayStar Church with Wanda.
David is survived by his children: Wesley Byler (Sarah) of Hilliard; Ashley Artz (Ryan) of Lebanon; and Darlene Byler of Hilliard; Grandchildren Jack Byler, Charlie Byler, Carter Artz, and Addison Artz. He is also survived by his sisters Millie Hershberger, Martha Miller, Alma Byler, Mae Gingerich (Jonas), Laura Wengard (Melvin), Sovilla McElwain (Doug), Ellen Mahoney (Brian), Arlene Yoder (Anthony), and Regina Yutzy (Ernie); brother Wayne Byler (Mary).
He was preceded in death by his parents David and Katie (Bontrager) Byler; brother-in-law Paul Hershberger; and brother-in-law William Miller.
Private services will be held. Memorial contributions may be given to Capital City Hospice.
Rader-McDonald-Tidd Funeral Home, 1355 W. Main Street, West Jefferson, OH, 43162, assisted the Byler family.
