Wilda “Gaye” Boysel, age 81, of Mt. Sterling, formerly of West Jefferson, passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, surrounded by family that she loved with all she had. Gaye was born on September 9, 1942, in Hamlin, West Virginia, to the late Herbert and Mary Beulah Courts Cooper. Gaye loved Jesus Christ and learned His word at a young age from her grandfather, Columbus “Lum” Courts, a deacon in the small southern Baptist church outside of Hamlin, who lived just up the hill from her childhood home. She often referred to him as the best man she ever knew.
Gaye loved playing cards, never turning down a good game of Euchre or Rummy. Many afternoons were spent playing Trouble with her grandchildren. She would laugh and say that if they happened to win, it was earned, not because she let them. Gaye also enjoyed reading, visiting the public library weekly for a new stock of books, and going to garage sales, especially with her grandchildren. She loved to sing and could often be heard belting out her favorite Patsy Cline songs, especially while cleaning the house on Saturday mornings while raising her three girls. Gaye’s true passion in life was her family, finding great joy in preparing Sunday family meals in her younger years and having all her children and grandchildren home on that one special day each week.
Gaye will be missed dearly by her beloved husband and love of her life, Ralph Boysel, Jr., as they would have celebrated 60 years of marriage on August 29, her three daughters, Bridget (Emmet) Calloway, Bonnie (Randy) Williams, Barbie (Todd) Wallace, seven grandchildren, Blair Calloway, Zachary (Courtney) Williams, Summer (Daniel) Cain, Laike Wallace, Blake Calloway (Ray Colon), Savannah “Vannie” Wallace, and Storm Williams, seven great grandchildren, Hendrix, Penelope and Paisley Williams and Shiloh Cain, Bryce, Brylee and Brynlee, and soon to be eighth great grandchild, Braylen Ray Colon, sister Becky (Jim) Kendall, brother Connie (Kathy) Cooper, many nieces, nephews, special relatives and friends.
Gaye was preceded in death by four brothers, Herbert Cooper Jr., Johnny Cooper, Rickie Cooper and Larry Cooper, one sister Lorene Cooper, sister in laws, Alice Cooper and Juanita Cooper, special nephew Aaron Kendall and several other family members and friends.
