Irene E. Yates

Irene Elizabeth (Callahan) Yates, 90, passed away peacefully at home in West Jefferson, Ohio, with her children at her side on Sunday night, January 7, 2024.  She was born June 20, 1933 in Jackson County, Ohio to the late John Merle and Sarah Ann (Harris) Callahan.  Irene graduated from Bloomfield High School, Jackson, Ohio, in 1951.  Following graduation, she moved to Fairborn, Ohio where she lived with her sister Eleanor and brother-in-law Willard, and was employed by Wright-Patterson Air Base.  In 1952, she married her late husband of 64 years, Richard “Dick” Yates.  She stayed at home to raise their three children until they were in high school in West Jefferson.  She took a job with Radac, in West Jefferson and then with Sears Distribution Center in Columbus.  Irene was a member of the Mother’s Club of the West Jefferson United Methodist Church and very active in the Women’s Group, cooking for countless church activities and craft fairs.  She loved getting together with family at picnics, reunions, holidays, and especially Christmas.  Down-home cooking and baking were her specialties along with canning, sewing and creating a loving home for her family.  She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Richard, her parents, her five siblings and their spouses: Henrietta (Robert) Terry, Clara (Walter) Schwartz, Edna (Paul) Overly, Francis (Pearlie) Hayner and Eleanor (Willard) Reed.  She was loved and cared for by her three children, Jackie (Bob) Clark, Jo Ellen (Randy) Monterotti and Edward (Jeri) Yates, her grandchildren: Lindsey (Joe) Friessen, Anthony (Laura) Monterotti, Benjamin (April) Monterotti, Adam Yates (Tyler Cummins), Makenzie Yates (Chris Boyer), Kyle (Heather) Clark and Emma (Mark) Young, great-grandchildren: Ethan, Avery and Lauren Friessen, Bryce and Audrey Monterotti, Gannon Arledge and Emmett Clark; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was Mom to her children, Grandma to her grandchildren and Grammy to her great-grandchildren.  Family will receive friends from 4:00-8:00p.m. FRIDAY at the RADER-MCDONALD-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, 1355 West Main Street, West Jefferson, Ohio 43162 (614)-879-9222 where her Funeral Service will be held 10:00a.m. SATURDAY, JANUARY 13, 2024 with Pastor Ruth Pribe, officiating.  Irene will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Alton Cemetery, Galloway, Ohio.  Please visit www.radermcdonaldtiddfuneralhome.com to share your favorite memories and to send your condolences to the Yates Family.
