Jerry Lee Billman, age 79, passed away at his home in West Jefferson on August 22, 2022 after a long and courageous battle with numerous ailments that started abruptly as a result of a blood disorder.
Born January 11, 1943 to Olga (Schlosser) and George Billman, Jerry was a graduate of Pleasant View High School, a self-made and successful businessowner, a loving family patriarch, and a generous and respected community leader.
Jerry grew up as a pig farmer and then drove a truck for Sun Oil. He built a thriving business from the ground up that included gas stations, convenience stores, auto repair shop, towing business, car rental, ice cream shop (JJ&M), and several residential rental properties.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Ruth (Shepherd) and their children: Jodi (Chris) Kotsko, Jill (Michael) Billman-Royer, and Michael (Jackie) Billman. “Turtle” – as he was affectionately known by his 10 grandchildren: Carleigh (Sean), Price, Graham, Mallory, Isaac, Michael, Isabelle, Mitchell, Elanna, and Campbell – was who everyone called to fix everything.
Jerry will be tremendously missed by his extensive, extended family of cousins, nieces, nephews, siblings-in-law, and grand-dogs. A man of great strength, spirit, faith, and humor – Jerry was also a loving and loyal friend to many.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Sonny; sister, Mary; and brother-in-law, Dick Sheets.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life at RADER-MCDONALD-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, 1355 W. Main St., West Jefferson, OH. from 3-7pm on Saturday, August 27. A Memorial Service, officiated by Pastors Sara Wadley and Larry Baker, will be held on Sunday, August 28, 3pm at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 55 Pasadena Ave., Columbus, OH. 43228.
