My Daddy 💜
Joe Dado passed in peace on Thursday, October 10, 2024. Joe, fondly known as Big Joe, was born to Angelo and Josephine Dado on August 21, 1938 in Majestic, KY. He was a talented basketball and baseball player and was inducted into his Phelps, Kentucky High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006.
After graduating from high school, Joe headed north to Columbus, Ohio to work alongside his big brother Ralph “Moose” Dado at the Columbus Icehouse. He worked there for several years and eventually was hired on at General Motors and retired from GM with 25 years of service. He was fortunate to retire at a young age and fully enjoy his long life.
Joe met his beautiful wife, Carrie Lou, while she was waiting at a bus stop on Chittenden Avenue on the OSU campus. He would meet her there every day with a bag of cashews, her favorite. Carrie Lou was the love of his life and they had a fairytale love and marriage. They dated 6 short months before they were married on October 30, 1962.
Joe will be dearly missed by his family and friends. His family was his pride and joy and his greatest roles in life were Husband, Father, Papa and Great-Papa. He was the best role-model, mentor and supporter. He never missed a sporting event that his children and grandchildren participated in. He was a loyal Kentucky Wildcats basketball, New York Yankees baseball, Cleveland Browns and 0SU football fan. There was always some type of sporting event on the television in his home. He showed unconditional love to his family and always made sure to say “I love you.”
Joe is survived by his wife and soulmate Carrie Lou (Raines) Dado, his loving son Jody (Deb) Dado, his adoring daughter, Nina (Paul) Casa and his beloved grandchildren Angelo (Miranda) Casa, Joseph Dado, Paulina (Joe) Jackson, Matthew (Aubrey) Dado and his great-grandson Riley Jackson.
In lieu of a formal service, a celebration of life will be held to honor Big Joe’s memory at a later date and time to be announced.
Please consider a memorial contribution in Big Joe’s memory to Ohio Hospice.
