Marcelia Marie (Marcie) (nee Chenos) Elfrink
Age 77, died peacefully on Tuesday, September 22, 2015, surrounded by her family following a courageous battle with COPD and Parkinson’s Disease. Marcie grew up and lived in West Jefferson for 76 years until moving to London, OH for assistance with living with chronic disease. She was born on April 12, 1938, the eighth child of John and Henrietta (Solomon) Chenos. She attended West Jefferson Schools graduating in 1956 and attending Franklin Business school for a semester following high school. Marcie was extremely proud that her 8 children, she and her 7 siblings, and her mother, Etta, all graduated from West Jefferson Schools. Marcie then married Joe Elfrink on February 9, 1957, and in 1958 welcomed the first of her eight children.Marcie enjoyed various activities including: euchre club, Firebelles (W.J. volunteer fire dept. women), coaching and playing women’s softball, gardening and preserving the harvest, traveling and camping with her family, W.J. class of 1956 and alumni reunions, and her church, Sts. Simon and Jude Catholic Church of West Jefferson. She worked outside the home for many years, at times working two jobs, first selling Stanley and Tupperware, OSU Golf Course, Madison County Hospital, Zayre’s Dept. Store, Sears Dept. Store, Huntington National Bank in WJ, ABDick, Nation’s Rent, and Discover Card. Recently, Marcie revealed that working at Huntington was her favorite job. Marcie was always known for being especially kind and generous. She never missed sending birthday cards to her children and grandchildren with “a little something in it” “Love, Mom” or “Love, Grandma Marcie”.Those left to cherish Marcie’s love and memory are her children: Drena (Rob) Hetzel, Madison, WI; Mark, Galloway; Tod (Dode), West Jefferson; Kevin (Kelly), West Jefferson; Scott (Dee), London; Dwayne, London; Brian (Kim), West Jefferson; Jarrod (Stephanie), London; grandchildren, Walt, Wil, Emma, Blair (Rob), Aarika (Joey), Ellie, Jasmine, Brandy, Adam, Sarah, Tiffany, Tessa, Rachel, Kristina (Aaron), Emilie (Michael), Alexandria Rose, Megan, Jason, Dustin, Logan, Reiley, Kyleigh; great-grandchildren, Carter, Clarke, Destiny, Bishop, Nathan, Alex, Mekil, Valik, Alaric, and Ariella. She is further survived by her sister, Cynthia (Don) Brake, sisters-in-law, Jewel (Steve) Chenos, and Georgia (John) Chenos, several nieces and nephews, and former husband, Joe Elfrink. Marcie was preceded in death by her parents, John and Henrietta (Etta) Chenos; sisters, Leona (Chuck) Miller, Madeline (George) Stokrp, Rita Johnson; brothers, Steve Chenos, John Chenos, George Chenos; grandson, Nate Elfrink, former parents-in-law, Mathilda and Gerritt Elfrink. There were so many people who have touched Marcie’s life throughout the years; she cherished her good friends Rose Murnan, Kathleen Vacheresse, Judy Long Biggers, Joann Fitzpatrick, and Linda Chambers just to name a few; Sandy Simpkins, Madison House, Sisters on Main, and Hospice Loving Care for their care of Marcie over the past 2 years. Friends may call 4-7pm Thursday September 24, 2015 at St. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, 9350 High Free Pike West Jefferson, OH 43162. Where Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:30am Friday. Burial, Mt. Calvary in West Jefferson.
