Paul Graham Bussert, of Prairie Township OH, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, March 3rd, 2024. He was born on June 21st, 1951, to Edward and Dorothy Bussert of Harrisburg, OH.
He graduated from Pleasant View High School in 1969 and began working for the City of Columbus Traffic Department which he retired from after 41 years of service. He married Susan Kay Adkins on June 21st, 1974, on their shared birthday. They had 3 children together and built a wonderful loving home. He was diagnosed with type 1 Diabetes at the age of 17 and received the gift of life in the form of a kidney transplant in 2005 which provided many additional years with his friends and family.
Paul will be remembered fondly for his sense of humor, love of colorful jokes, Carnival Cruises, Oak Island NC family beach vacations, Hawaiian shirts, road trips (using actual paper maps, printed map quests directions and AAA triptiks), Miller High Life, Jimmy Buffett, genealogy, road rallies, his grand-dogs, the tv show Survivor, Tetris, 2 seater sports cars, manual transmission vehicles, Diet Faygo, and collecting license plates for which he had several hundred. He loved being a grandpa and valued his role as “Pop”.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Neil Roddy.
Paul is survived by his wife of 50 years, Susie, 3 children, Molly (Michael) Wiley, Katie (Tim Rewitzer) Ichrist, and Benjamin (Rachael) Bussert and 4 grandchildren Charley Ichrist, Amelia (“Kaiden”) Bussert, Owen Wiley and Carter Wiley. He is also survived by his sister Mary (Bob) Presnell, Lee Roddy, Jim Roddy, and numerous family members and friends.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 16th from 9:00-11:00am with a service beginning at 11:00am. We will be processing to Alton Cemetery following the service. After the burial, the family will be hosting a Celebration of Life, where they invite you to join them in wearing Hawaiian shirts, in honor of Paul’s love for them.
