Raymond Eugene Shipley, age 93, went home to be with the Lord Monday, January 22, 2018, in Columbus, Ohio. Born in 1924, the son of Dewey and Nora Shipley. He graduated from Fairfield High School. He was a loving father and faithful member of the caring Maranatha Community Fellowship. Raymond farmed till the age of 80. He was a member of a local wood working club, led a 4H club many years and helped roast the first “ox” at the West Jefferson Ox Roast in 1951 as a member of the Business Men’s Association. Raymond had a love and talent for woodcraft. A skilled hunter and fisherman, he also spent numerous hours scouring the fields of Madison County finding arrowheads and knew every spot on the farm for morels and black raspberries. Raymond was referred to as “the Wizard” among family for his ability to diagnose any motor repair from his living room chair…and be right every time. We will miss him. He is survived by his four children, Deborah, Jeffrey, Ross, and Laura; grandchildren, Sarah, Sam, Halley, Clayton, Roscoe, and Maxwell; great grandchildren, Aiden, Gus and Julian; one sister, Reba; several nieces, nephews and many friends.
