Richard Earl Yates, age 85, passed away peacefully at home with his wife of 64 years, Irene, on Tuesday morning January 31, 2017. He was born April 1, 1931 in Gallia County, OH to the late Luther “Earl” and Gladys (Thomas) Yates. After losing his mother at age four, he was raised by his loving step-mother Debbie. He was preceded in death by two infant sisters, sisters Mary Yates, Lola (Lee) Sinon, Eursline (Dick) Mahley, brother-in-law Albert Hall, nephews Norman Hall and Daniel Mahley. Dick graduated from Centerville High School, Thurman, OH in 1948 then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force for seven years, serving in Korea as a Corporal for the Air Police. He worked for Buckeye Electric, retired from Battelle Memorial Institute (31 years) and Tosoh Specialty Materials. He enjoyed playing softball which he did for Battelle, C&C Texaco, and Tosoh well into his 60’s. He loved hunting, golf, and family activities, but most of all he loved being on his farm in the hills of Jackson County working and taking care of his cattle. Dick was loved and will be missed by his wife Irene, his children Jackie (Bob) Clark, Jo Ellen (Randy) Monterotti and Edward (Jeri) Yates. Grandchildren Lindsey (Joe) Friessen, Anthony (Laura) Monterotti, Benjamin (April) Monterotti, Adam (Tyler) Yates, Mackenzie (Coburn) Morgan, Kyle (Heather) Clark, and Emma Clark. Great-grandchildren Ethan, Avery, and Lauren Friessen, Bryce and Audrey Monterotti, and Gannon Arledge. Sister Carol Hall and numerous nieces and nephews. He was Dad to his children, Grandpa to his grandchildren and Pappy to his great grandchildren. Friends may call SUNDAY, February 5th 2017, between 2-5pm at Rader-McDonald-Tidd Funeral Home 1355 W. Main St. West Jefferson, OH 43162. Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home MONDAY, Februry 6th at 11am. Pastor Ruth Pribe officiating, followed by burial at Alton Cemetery.
