Ronald C. Parsons 1942-2018

Ron Parsons, former law director of West Jefferson, died of cancer on Sunday, August 26, 2018 at his home. Born in Columbus and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, Ron graduated from New Kensington High School and his beloved Penn State University. A 1966 Ohio State University Law School graduate, Ron was a partner at Culp, Parsons & Murray for 51 years. During his law career he served as prosecutor of Madison County, magistrate for the Madison County Juvenile Court and argued a case before the Supreme Court of Ohio.

Ron often described his appreciation of working five minutes from his home which allowed more time for many pursuits and hobbies. A green thumb, many benefited from his numerous summer garden bounties and “Ron’s famous spaghetti sauce.” His family will miss his home-cooked holiday meals, but will never understand how one person could create such an incredible mess while cooking.

He enjoyed woodworking, riding in the Great Ohio Bike Adventure (GOBA), camping, Wednesday golf, reading the daily newspaper, life-long learning about the Civil War, watching golf and football, fishing and playing Bridge and Euchre. He enjoyed stories of the obscure and absurd and was often heard sharing his own embellished stories of living in small town Ohio. When at home, never far from his side, were his German Shephard dogs who loved “egg day” on weekends when Ron would short order cook eggs for them.

Ron served in the Ohio National Guard, was a member of Madison Lodge #221 F. & A.M. and was a former member of the West Jefferson Library Board. He volunteered for the Humane Society of Madison County and Relay for Life.

Preceded in death by his father Brooks Parsons, mother Frances (Miller) Young, father and mother in-law Harry and Dorothea Brewster, Ron is survived by his wife Cynthia (nee Brewster), son John (Shannon) Parsons of Raleigh, NC, daughter Julie (Roger) Fox of Grandview Heights, OH, brother Larry (Julie) Parsons of Cleveland, OH, three grandsons Brooks, Ezekiel and Harrison and multiple cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held 2:00p.m. Friday, August 31, 2018 at the Life in Christ Fellowship Church, 500 State Route 142 NE, West Jefferson, OH 43162 with Pastor Bob Steinbrecher, officiating.
