Sue Ellen Eckhart

Sue Ellen Eckhart, age 72, passed from this life December 25, 2022. Her loving husband of 50 years, Don Elijah Eckhart, survives her and mourns her loss.

She was born on September 18, 1950, in Ross County, the daughter of the late Frank and Suzanne Benner Gregg. She was also predeceased by her in-laws, Melvin and Betty Eckhart.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law. Greg and Kim Eckhart, Nathan and Lina Eckhart. In addition, she is survived by her sister, Gayle Mahaffey and her husband David. Sue Ellen had three grandchildren, Ella, Leo, and Paxton, and two step-grandchildren, Melanie and Emmanuel. A niece, Molly Montgomery and a nephew, Ross Mahaffey. Left to mourn her loss is her brother-in-law, Dale Eckhart and his wife, Edith of Germany. She was a loving mentor to Victoria, Tyler, and Paige Fabry. She is survived by a host of cousins and friends that she cherished. 

Sue Ellen graduated from Paint Valley High School in Bainbridge in 1968, and from Ohio University in 1972. She loved working with children and had a career as a speech and language therapist, working mostly at elementary schools in Philadelphia, Flint, Michigan, and Madison County, Ohio. She retired from West Jefferson Local Schools.

She was a woman of faith, a believer of Jesus, and enjoyed serving others. She also enjoyed baking, cooking, and sewing. She loved reading, gardening, adventures, and enjoying a good meal with family or friends. Besides her family, Sue Ellen was crazy about animals. Her most recent companion, Meg, was the last stray that she took in. She was active in a book club with members of Grove City Vineyard Church, and in the Madison County Retired Teachers Association.
